Place remaining stitches on holder?

My sweater pattern calls for the last remaining non bound off stitches to be placed on a holder for future use as the neck. No problem there, I've done that but what do I do with the yarn that is attached to the ball? I'm done with the piece now, do I just cut it and tie it off? Later on I'll be picking up and knitting those stitches in the round along with the front.

Just cut the yarn, leaving about a 6" tail, and leave it. Don't tie anything off, you can just leave it as is until you need it later. Once that part has been joined in the round with the other stitches, you can later weave that tail in.
