changing colors on the hp scarf

Ok, so I finally discovered how to change colors in the round (and boy, if i had known it was THAT easy)...now the question becomes do i carry the yarn up the inside without cutting it? It is in a tube, so the ends dont matter because they wont be seen. This is my preferred option, but I am wondering how much yarn i will be wasting?
