Length of adult knit beanie?
Hey guys - to all you hat knitters!

I am knitting a hat for someone and I want to know how far should I knit, in inches, before knitting the final inch (decreases)...

Or in other words, what should the total height be of a beanie/knit cap? I have one inch of ribbing on the bottom that can be flipped up(to be doubled fabric) if they so choose.

My suggestion is to fold the ribbing up and thenmeasure about 6 - 7 inches for an adult size from the fold before starting your decreases.

Boy, my family must either have really small heads or like their hat tops close to their heads. Even with a rolled up brim, I never have made one 11+ inches long.

Yea...My book that I am following says to knit I think 8 inches more after the brim, but I made the ribbing too short, so I am thinking, should I just knit 7 inches?

My hats from last row of ribbing are six inches until I start the decreases. Using WW yarn, I start with a CO of 88 sts, knit edging/ribbing and the tube. Then knit six sts, k2tog repeating around. Then a round of even knitting. Then knit 5 sts, k2tog around, then even and follow the pattern of decreasing until there are about 4-12 sts depending on how tired I am or how thick the yarn is.

This pattern can be adapted for any yarn or size head. The CO is in mutiples of 11. I've made several out of different kinds of yarn and they've all turned out great and fit perfectly.
