SKS 'Class Sock' gusset Q
I picked up the Sensational Knitted Socks book at my library (now it's on my Christmas list!) and made the class sock. For those of you veterans with a copy of the book, on p.31 in the "Gusset Decrease" box it says:

Rnd 3: Work est patt.
Rep rnds 2 and 3 until 32 total sts rem......

I get that round 2 is different than round 1 but what's up with round 3? I assumed that "work established pattern" meant to just repeat round 2 but then it says to repeat rounds 2 AND 3. Aren't they the same? Wouldn't you just be repeating round 2 over and over? Am I supposed to be alternating round 1 along the way? But... at the top of the Gusset box it says, "work rnd 1 once to combine sts picked up..."

Thanks for the enlightenment. I wanna get this right before I make a serious sock.

When working the gusset you have one row where you work the decreases and one row where you work the established pattern, i.e., be it all knit stitches or whatever the pattern may be (without any decreases)...in your case row 2 is where you decrease and row 3 is where you work your pattern. In most cases row 1 is the "setup" row where you knit (or work the pattern) to get the stitches on 3 needles or 4 needles to prepare for working the gusset.

Hope this helps. You're going to do fine.

JudyD, THANKS! That makes a whole lot of sense now that you spell it out for me. I don't think I would've ever figured that out myself. I understood the toe decreases to happen every other row but not the gusset decreases.

Sorry it took me so long to get back here to see your answer (unbelievably busy week!)
but a BIG HUG and thank you for the explanation!!!

Merry Christmas!
