joining with circular needles

when a pattern calls for cirular needles to knit with and then it says "join" what does that mean, how would i join?

Join means to begin your first round by knitting (or Purling) the first stitch that you cast on. That way you'll begin knitting in the round instead of flat.

Thanks! I played around with my knitting last night, and it worked! I made a circle

Now maybe I can attempt that hat pattern.
