Finishing an Ashford?
I am not anywhere close to a shop that has spinning wheels. How much sanding does an unfinished Ashford traditional require?

Not much at all. My first wheel was a traditional. Just lightly sand where (if) needed. Brush a finish on and let dry after that..... if you like.

Others may disagree, but I don't think you can beat an Ashford for a first wheel.

I completely agree. I have an Ashford Traditional and it's treated me very nice!

My Ashford is unfinished - thankfully actually. I was glad I went with unfinished because I needed to sand down an area where the metal bar was catching when the wheel turned - this caused the wheel to wobble and not sit right in the housing. I'd have been a bit unhappy if I had to ruin a finish for that =D Apart from that, no other sanding was needed. I do need to treat it though.
