uh oh!Hats too what?
K, I asked the other day about altering a pattern for a smaller baby from a adult size. Seemed like a good idea, got the "ok" from a couple ppl that it would probably work out fine...

I tried it on my baby who is about the same age/size as the one the hats meant for.. its too short...Circumfrance is great.. It just sits on TOP of the ears, and I wanted it to come down OVER the ears to help with wind blocking and etc( we live in AL, it doesnt get too cold here)...

Whats this "blocking" thing about? Should I try that? Will it help stretch it out? its just a simple rolled brim hat on straight needles and seamed up, decreased at the top, and cinched together, my adult size came out GREAT!

I will add that I didnt know how to go about decreasing, so I just did the pattern from the adult, @ 5 inches of stockinette I began a k5 k2together for a row, purl, k4 k2t, purl, k3 k2t, purl, k1 k2t, purl, k2t, cinch tight and tie off... tried it on, like I said its too short...

should I just un seam it and add some rows to the bottom?? OR is it a problem with the decreasing? Is there like a formula to calculate how many k and k2t you should do when making up a patter???

Your dec is probably okay, you just didn't make it long enough before starting that. If its acrylic, it won't block much if any, cotton or wool/wool blend will stretch out. If that doesn't help, pick up stitches along the CO and add a couple inches - part of it can be turned up for a cuff.
