finishing my hat

I am working on my first project on circular needles. I am using a pattern from Edith on a show called knit one purl two.

2. the second step says knit 2 stitces together across the next two rounds. remove marker and cut yarn leaving a 10" tail tread tail through a yarn needle, remove stitches from needle one at a time. Pull thread to gather up all stitches.

3. fasten off

I don't understand ( remove stitces from needle one at a time. Pull thread to gather up all stitches. And then fasten off.

how do I do this?

well i think it is only telling you to do them one at a time since it would be easy to drop stithes otherwise. Basically you are going to cut your yarn, leave a long tail, thread it on tapestry needle and run it through the remaining stitches. then weave the yarn into the underside of the hat to finish it off. does that help?

thats what I thought but I wasn't sure.

to fasten off do I just tie it off and hide the end of the yarn
