KH Monthly Challenge--January
On January 6, 1838, the telegraph was first demonstrated by Samuel Morse. Recognize the name?? That's right, Samuel Morse invented morse code!

Since one of the more challenging Wefriddle levels included morse code, I thought it would be interesting to see how we all can use morse code in our knitting.

I found a chart of American Morse Code on Wikipedia (It's at the bottom of this post, or you can go here to read the whole article). Your challenge is to knit a "message" in your knitting. It can be your name, your KH nickname, the name of the person you're giving your project to (if applicable), "I love yarn" or whatever you want.

There are a few ways you can do this: (that I can think of--post your ideas if you have more!)
1. Use the chart in a st st project (hat, gloves, socks, etc) and think of the black "dots and dashes" just as you would follow a regular knit/purl pattern. For the white blocks, you'd knit on the RS, and purl on the WS. For the black blocks, purl on RS and knit on WS.
2. Use the chart for a double knitting project (check out amy's video here ). I'm going to attempt a bag with this method, but you could do a scarf, hat, etc.

I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone interprets this challenge. Stretch those creative brain cells!!!

Good luck, and happy knitting! xxx

This is a great Idea! I did this on my little sisters hat a while back. I may join this along as well... put my initials in purl stitches on the scarf that I am knitting or something

Here is how i did it. It was super easy.

Wow... hilde... you amaze me. Do you read minds or something?

I've had several scarves designed since I started knitting with morse code on them. Lyrics to favorite songs, band names, ect... I just couldnt figure out how to actually DO IT, Now you have me wanting to rethink these old designs.
