Anyone made the Hot Lava Cardigan? Is my math funny?

Start increases from cuff to elbow:
Small: Work 1 round St st. Repeat this pattern 5 times, for a total of 25 rows:
[K 4 rounds, K 5th round until second to last stitch before marker, M1, K last 2
stitches]
Medium: Same as for small, but on last round of last pattern repeat, M1, K1, M1,
K last stitch. (instead of only making 1 stitch)
Large: Work 1 round St st.
Repeat this pattern 8 times, for a total of 24 rows:
[K 2 rounds, K 3rd round until second to last stitch before marker, M1, K last 2
stitches]
Work 1 round St st.
You should now have 35 (36: 38) stitches in your round, and 46 rows.

I have 40 stitches in my round when I am done with the increases. (I am making the medium.) I searched KAL's and blogs, and haven't seen anyone complain about the math, so am I doing something wrong?

I think I know what's going on: the pattern is a bit ambiguous.

The only round you increase two is the very last one; on all other rounds, you do the small and medium the same. In other words, follow the small instructions for 24 rows, then on row 25, you insert the extra increase. In still other words, you do four increases of one stitch, then the last increase is two stitches.

Okay, it's worded funny, but I think I figured it out....

Medium: Same as for small, but on last round of last pattern repeat, M1, K1, M1, K last stitch. (instead of only making 1 stitch)

For the medium you k4 rounds, then increase 1 st on the 5th. Do that for a total of 25 rounds, except on the 25th round, you increase 2 stitches. You started out with 30, plus 6 stitches increased (1st on 4 rounds, 2 sts on the last one) equals 36. I think you increased 2 stitches in all rounds which got you 4 extra stitches.
