Drop stitch

I am going to attempt this mitts and have a couple of questions before I start.


When I get to the section about Turn and drop first stitch, do I drop 1 stitch each time I turn to knit back and forth?

Also, will I be on a WS row when I begin this section or will I start with a RS row?

No, you only drop th 1 stitch on tha row, then later at the end you'll drop the other stitches. You only turn once to make a thumb opening, doing only 2 rows flat, and the rest is made in the round. The rows that are knits are the RS.

What does 5 times each mean in that section? I am confused as to where you see 2 times.

Pattern:
"Turn, drop first stitch, knit back and forth:
WS: *p5, k1*
RS: *ktbl, k3, ktbl, p1* repeat until 5 last stitches, ktbl, k3, ktbl.
5 times each."

Whoops sorry, you're right - these rows repeat for 5 times each. But you drop the stich only on the first row. Then you begin to knit in the round again. You'll be dropping the stitch once there because after you begin knitting in the round again and drop the other stitches at the end, this section below the thumb won't be a part of those stitches.

Ok, I'm at the "drop first stitch" and then I am supposed to p5, k1.

If I drop that first stitch won't everything unravel? Also if I now have 29 stitches, how does p5 k1 work?

No, only the one stitch will unravel back to the start of that column; the CO will hold it. For the rest, follow the directions:

WS: *p5, k1*
RS: *ktbl, k3, ktbl, p1* repeat until 5 last stitches, ktbl, k3, ktbl.

Though I will say this is a bit odd, but it was translated from French so maybe there's some inconsistencies in it. I may have to work this out sometime to see how it goes. I've made the Clapotis (several of them) and have thought about doing the hat too. May have to invest $2 to match my color and make the hat and mitaines.

Ok, I CO for these and figured it out. On the p5, k1 row, you'll end with p5. The RS row will also be one short, but it takes that into account. She just didn't do it for the WS row.
