Blocking Hats?

I mainly knit hats and scarves and have never blocked. I'm making a beautiful hat for my DH and want it to be perfect. Should I block it? The stitches look fine and everything but I'm just curious if most people block hats or not? TIA!

PS. If most people do...should I just steam it? I'm knitting it with Patons Classic Merino - it's a cabled hat.

I have blocked a hat before. I soaked it in water and a bit of wool wash and then just pinned it to the bed after lining up the bottom edges. You could also block it over a ballon or a ball that is the right size.

I find blocking and washing really does even out stitches, but it is a personal preference.
