You can just leave the side stitches on the circular needles. After the first row or two it is clear that these stitches are just being held. It works out great.

Cute sweater.
I just now started this jacket. I had one false start- I think my count was off by 1 stitch then I was double decreasing wrong. But I ripped it all out and started over; now I am on the right track. I think it will be cute. One question I had in the pattern has already answered itself as I knit it. I hope my next question will answer itself when I get to that section.
I'm using Mission Falls Super wash wool.

i just started my first bsj after getting my kit from schoolhouse press. love it! i have no idea how the color will turn out, so i started with the medium grey and i'll use a teal ball of wool next. then back to grey, then back to teal. my hope is that the teal will end up around where baby might spit up and hide any *gasp* stains.

Here is my progress on the baby surprise jacket. I am using left over Mission Falls superwash. I have an odd color combination but I like the way it looks. The colors aren't very babyish. But are good jacket colors. I'm hoping for some interesting stripes with all the miters. I have no intended recipient for this. This is the first thing I have made where I am making it "just because" to find out how to make it. I might donate it to charity or if it turns out well and I still like it when it's done I might just hang onto it for awhile.

The 10 stitches that you pick up fit nicely into the space where the 10 ridges are.

I wish I could illustrate it or explain it better but you should be able to see where the stitches go once you start that row.

The notes I used weren't very specific at that row.

Hope this helps a little.

Best,
Susan
