What's your favorite yarn?
I was wondering what your favorite yarn to knit baby projects is? I am at a loss as to what to pick up for a baby blanket!

Thanks

Katy

Depend on what weight yarn you want.. Caron Simply Soft comes both worsted and baby yarn in pretty colors and is very soft. Bernat Softee Baby is DK weight and is super soft and comes in baby colors.
There are other good choices as well. The thing to remember for baby items is washable and soft.

Encore, a worsted weight yarn by Plymouth, is a favorite with many people because it's soft, well-priced and machine washable. It's made of 75% acrylic (for washability) and 25% wool (for durability and a nice feel). The colors are not especially exciting, but all the usual baby shades are there.

Knitaly is an imported superwash wool (machine washable, but best to dry it flat) in lovely colors.

Baby Ull by Dale of Norway ("Ull" means "wool") is also a superwash and the color range is great: pastels, brights and deep jewel tones.

BTW, there's no rule that says a baby blanket has to be pale color. Babies enjoy color and so do their parents. My personal baby blanket yarn is a cotton: Mission Falls 1824 Cotton (there is also a wool version). It has a wonderful texture and the color range is very sophisticated. Great for a striped or Log Cabin blanket. (See the baby blanket in Vogue On the Go Weekend Knits). When the baby is too old for a blankie, the parents can use it as a throw or afghan.

Hi,

I've used Plymoutn Encore for a baby blanket in the past and really liked it!

This past Saturday I picked up 5 skeins of Lion Brand Jiffy - color Kittyhawk for my next baby blanket, and it's wonderfully soft and just a little fuzzy (mohair-like). I can't wait to start on this. I agree that washability is a great idea unless you're planning to make an heirloom type christening blanket. Then I'd use the most luscious yarn you can find and put up with the hand washing.

Have fun!!!

Mary

I've used Red Heart's Baby Clouds, Bernat's Cotton Tots and Paton's Grace for baby blankets. Enore is a lovely option also.
