In the past I always increased by knitting into the front and back of a stitch.

this afghan pattern says to M1....something about lifting a horizontal over to needle? mmmmm new to me....

Can't I just increase the way I always have? Help. and Thank you.

You can increase the way you've been doing it, the M1 increases are just a bit more invisible. Check out the M1L and M1R increases on this page.

Once you've done it a couple of times, I think you'll find M1 as easy, or easier, than knitting into the back and front. Plus it is nearly invisible. Good luck with it.
