knitting inside out

When knitting with DPN, I seem to always knit my project inside out. I'm knitting a mitten at the moment, and it's inside out! I'm not really concerned at this point, but I'm thinking it might be a problem when I get to the end. I'm wondering why I always seem to do this and how to correct it. Any suggestions?

Ronda,

I did this with my first sock. I think it had something to do with the way my needles were positioned when I made the join. Make sure that the needle that has your first cast on stitch is on the left. The last cast on stitch should be on the right needle with stitches on the middle needle in the back. It will look like this:

Make sure that when you join, you join the two needles in the front.

This has solved the problems for me.

I think that is my problem. I've got the working yarn coming from the right and my first cast on stitch on the left when I join, BUT those 2 needles are in the back. That must be my problem. I'll be sure to pay attention when I start the second mitten.

That is exactly what I did on my first sock. I think that is how I knitted my last project in the round too, which is why my pattern was on the inside.

mine tries to flip inside out when i'm working on a new sock/hat/whatever.
Once I'm far enough (1 1/2 inches or so) it finally stays on the side i put it on.

you can turn your mitten right side out. just poke it through so it's right side out and then you want to knit on the needle closest to you instead of the far needle.
