Usually when I increase, I knit into the front and back of a stitch.

this afghan pattern says to M1, lifting horizontal .....???? haven't done this ever.

Can I just increase the way I always did it? does it make a difference.

The afghan is seed stitch and cables....thank you.

Check out the increases shown on No increase is going to ruin your work, choose the one you prefer for whatever reason.

The kf&b increase will leave a little bar in your knitting, the m1 increase won't. Since there is seed stitch in the afghan, the bar probably won't really be noticable.
Ariann Cardigan in Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece - 11 inches and two buttonholes done!
Tomato from No Sheep for You in Cotton Ease - nearly done! One sleeve left.
Tuscany from NSFY in Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool - it's working up beautifully.
Montego Bay Scarf from Summer 07 IK Knits in Sea Silk - an indulgent knit
