Ok, so I tried making this before but... I didn't really follow the directions I think... Can someone maybe explain how I do the part in red? It confuses me a little (before, I just did a plain knit stitch for the whole thing...)

Cast on 47 sts.
**1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: K1. *K1 in next stitch in row below. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
3rd row: As 1st row.
4th row: K2. *K1 in next stitch in row below. K1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
Rep from ** until from beg measures 10 ins [25.5 cm], ending with 1st or 3rd row. Cast off knitwise.

Insert the tip of your needle into the hole (center of the V) in the row BELOW the next st, K that in lieu of the one on the ndl....and then take the orig st on your left ndl off at the same time (w/o K it). So, you'll alternate working an actual K, then one in the row below. Keep yarn just loose enough so you can drop down that bit of extra distance.

VVVVVVVVV Sts on ndl
VBVBVBVBV (row below) Work Bs rather than the actual st on ndl
