Help to understand patterns

Dear everyone, I'm just a beginner. I find the website really helpful, but i still have one question:
What k2, k5, p3 etc means? Knit and pirl is ok, but what the number means? Maybe there is an answer somewhere, i was just too stupid to not find it. PLease give me some direction, if you have a chance.

The number is the number of knits or purls they want you to do.

k2 = knit 2 stitches
