Thanks for the compliment on the afghan. It's just your basic garter stitch, and I've only knit 1 1/2 inches. (I want to add another 1 1/2 inches at the bottom with the same yarn when it's complete.)

I used one skein of a variegated yarn I received from that lady who works for a yarn company. (Remember she gave me 200 skeins of yarn for charity knitting?) It's called "Classic Worsted", but I don't know what brand of yarn it is. The label is just a simple white tag. I do know that it is an acrylic/wool blend, similar to Plymouth Encore or Lion Brand Wool-Ease. It has a nice sheen to it, and was easy to work with.

If anyone needs a skein of this yarn for the blanket, just let me know, and I'll mail it to you. The yarn is supposed to be used for charity, after all.

The yarn needs to be washable, the color is up to you.

Any color of yarn is JUST FINE! In fact, the more colorful, the better. It will just add to the character of the blanket. Just use a yarn that is in your stash.

Make sure the yarn is washable. Acrylic is fine. So is an acrylic/wool blend. We just want the blanket to be easy to take care of.

Also, remember to use a worsted weight yarn, so the blanket keeps its shape and consistent size throughout. It might have a few rows that are knit tighter or looser, but I think that will even out at the end.

We have planned on each person knitting for 3 inches, but PLEASE don't feel pressured to knit that amount. You may only be able to knit a few rows. That's just fine. I'm sure we'll have some other knitters available to add more rows if necessary.

If you have more than you want I'd be glad to take some off your hands. I don't like fuzzy or too thin yarns though.

The blanket looks great Sandy. You have done a great job getting this together. The map is a great idea.

I wish I could travel around with it. I guess in a way I will be.
