Socks for swollen ankles

I want to knit some socks for my DM, who has extremely swollen feet and ankles. I'm think about tube socks with k2, p2 all the way down, as that seems to be very stretchy, but not so that it is tight. What do y'all think?

How are diabetic socks constructed? G-pa has some, but I've never looked closely at them. I'd use them as a guide for non-constricting socks, because that's what they're designed for.

K2P2 is nice and stretchy. You could make them with more CO stitches as well.
