Hi Everyone...I'm a new knitter and am kinda sick of knitted scarves. I started knitting in November and have made umpteen scarves with different fibers....

I am just about to start a new scarf with a worsted weight wool that my mom wants. I was hoping to try something new, but I'm not really good at using patterns yet. I want something easy but different. I was watching knitty gritty today (making the shrug) and I love the yarn overs, lacing look they made. Anything like that I can incorporate in this scarf?

BTW, I love this website and have learned soooo much already from you all.

You might could do just an eyelet scarf, or you could do the Branching Out scarf from Knitty , if you want to try following a pattern. If you need any help, let me know.

If you're looking for something super easy, you could try the Scrunchable Scarf.

If you do a search on here, you'll find a whole bunch of scrunchables. I made one a few months ago, and it really helped me learn how to purl.

Lessee, there's a lacy scarf pattern....

Cast on 40 (or 20, 30, depends on needle size) stitches and repeat the following pattern row to the required length.
*K1, yo, K2tog. repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Or....

Loosely CO 25 st.
Knit 6 rows

Rows 1 & 3: Knit
Row 2: K4, *K2tog, yo, K1, repeat from * across, end k3
Row 4: K4, *yo, k1, ssk, repeat from * across, end k3
Repeat these four rows until you have about 8-9 arm lengths of yarn left.
Knit 6 rows. Bind off loosely.

This is a kind of lacy strip pattern scarf that I'm currently working on, I made the pattern myself and it's super quick and easy!

This scarf is done in Boucle yarn on 4mm metal needles.

(p.s. Oh and by the way sorry I didn't clean the table up... I'm writing my math homework too lazy to tidy up before I take the picture )

The pattern is:

Cast on 31 stitches.

For all RS(right side) rows: knit 1, *knit 2, yarn over, knit 2 together* repeat from * to * till you have two stitches left, and knit for the remaining two stitches.

For all WS(wrong side) rows: purl all the way through.

And that's it! Hope you like it.

One of the most simple (I know it's easy because even I can do it!) and most beautiful lacy scarf patterns is called feather and fan. It goes like this:

Row 1: knit across
Row 2: purl across
Row 3 (this is the only tough row): K 2 tog 3 times, (YO, K1) 6 times, K 2 tog 3 times* repeat to end
Row 4: knit across

The only thing is that the scarf should be in multiples of 18 stitches.

Miss Moosey that pattern sounds great im going to have to try it out - im guessing you just keep repeating those 4 rows until you have the desired length.

also, for something that looks similar you could try a twisted drop stitch scarf this tells you how do do the twisted drop stitch
and here is pattern u can use as a guideline. u don't have to follow it exactly as it says. for example, on my twisted drop stitch scarf i used worsted weight yarn, size 10 needles (though u might want to go a size or two smaller) and i had more garter stitch rows in between the twisted drop stitch rows (8 to be exact)
