insert back to front between 1st & 2nd k 2nd, then k 1st
Very old pattern. The whole instruction is: "insert right needle, from back to front, between 1st and 2nd st on left needle, k the 2nd, the k the first st and drop both sts from left needle"

I'm a relatively new knitter and this one has me confused.

It looks like you're doing a left twist. It's like a mini-cable where you'll be knitting the second stitch from the point and then the first stitch.

So bring the needle around to the back of the stitches, knit into the back loop of the second stitch, don't slide anything off. Then bring that needle around to the front and knit the first stitch as normal. Then slide them both off. The second stitch will cross on front of the first stitch.
