cashmere yarn

has anyone used cashmere yarn? if so is it soft enough to make pillows? thanks and glitterspun

i havn't used 100% cashmere yarn but i've knitted with some blends and they're definitely soft enough for pillows.

i'm currently using lion brand cashmere blend. it's cashmere, wool, and a bit of nylon. so soft and smooth! it seems to be pilling though and i'm not sure if pilling is cool for pillows.

I have never used 100% cashmere, but have used it blended with other fibers and it is very soft. Cleaning them may be tricky, but I don't see why it couldn't be used for pillows.

I love 100% cashmere -- it's heavenly to work with and wear -- but I can't imagine being able to afford enough of it to make a pillow.

The stuff I've seen is tres expensive and you don't get a heck of a lot of yardage for your money.

I made a pair of wrist warmers from Lobster Pot Cashmere that I got at Knitting Central in Westport and it was $45 a skein and I think there were 85 yards per skein.

Also, I would think you would have to dry clean your pillow.

If you would like an affordable cashmere blend yarn, Knitpicks Panache is very soft. It is 40% Baby Alpaca, 20% Cashmere, 20% silk, and 20% extra fine merino at $4.99 a ball, 68 yards, and 3-3.5 sts to the inch on size 9-11 needles.

I agree, and just to toot my own horn and give you some ideas for color, here is how I dyed my panache. It took color REALLY well, so you could do your own custom colors.

I bought some cashmere from Smiley's and wasnt that impressed with the softness factor. However at $15/skein (cheap), I'd be making some awfully small pillows. You might try the various blends. I'm working on some 100% merino that I brought from www.knitivity.com which is probably the softest yarn I remember using. These socks will probably wear out in a week, but the yarn is so-o-o-o soft.
