Circular Needles

Hello, I'm very new to knitting; however, I'm attempting a shawl collared sweater ... the pattern is easy until you get to the shawl collar. The pattern calls for the collar to be knitted on circular needles in a "back and forth" method. I can't for the life of me figure out how this method can be done with connecting the stitches. Please help.

When you knit back and forth on circulars, you DON'T connect the stitches. It's just like knitting on straights. Rather than have you change needles, though, you just use the circs.

Many of us use circs as straights exclusively anymore--much more versatile.

yep, you just use your circular as if it were a straight, and you don't join.
