OT - April Is Autism Awareness Month
April is Autism Awareness Month!

Here are a few links, and there is also a checklist of signs in my signature.

Autism Society of America

Autism Speaks

I have a couple more informational checklists if anyone is interested, just PM me as they are a bit lengthy.

I love my niece with Autism!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. - Marianne Williamson

Thanks for letting me know! My mom works with kids with mental problems (she works at a vo-tec highschool), so I'll let her know. Glad to hear you support autism!

Did you happen to see the show Oprah did on Autism? I was so proud of all of those parents who were on the show. Over the years I've had a few children with autism in my classes. I applaud them and those who support them. I hope in the next few years more research is done.

I'm so glad that people are so much more aware of Autism these days. My 17-year-old brother is Autistic, and for years I fielded questions like "oh, so he's like Rain Man?" or "he's like, really good at math then, right?"

I love my brother, and can't imagine him any other way.

it really is wonderful the awareness is greater. my niece was misdiagnosed for many years and it was just unbelieveable to deal with and try to figure out, one of those wish we knew then what we know now things, but at least in retrospect everything makes sense now and there are gobs more resources, thank goodness!! i missed the oprah, but saw she was affiliated with one of those non-profits, i love her.

Awesome! I used to work with autistic kids in high school! My school shared the campus with an independent school for autistic kids between ages 3 and 9. We'd take them to lunch and to the park, play on their playground with them, and do different holiday celebrations with them. We had a huge Christmas feast and later an Easter-egg hunt with them. One of the best experiences of my life!!!!!!
