decreases
working on a cardigan knit flat in one piece. I started with 48 stitches. First and last 4 stitches are in garter stitch.

The next 9 stitches are part of a cable pattern, then there is a marker, 26 stitches, marker, 9 cable stitches.

I did one increase row that brought my stitch count to 52 (inc. 4).

Now the decrease row says:

*Work to 2 stitches before marker, p2tog, ssp; repeat from * once, work to end.

So, if I understand correctly, I will be decreasing a total of 4 stitches. However, if I decrease beofre my first marker, that messes up my cable section. Should the decreases come after the first marker and before the second marker? Or am I totally confused?

According to how the directions are written, there should be a decrease before and after each marker.

Where is the pattern from?
