confusing directions

Beginning at the neck edge with larger needle cast on 2 sts, place a marker caston 11 sts. place a marker ect ect
working back and forth on stockinet st and slipping markers
I understand the above.
The following is confusing:(expecially the first 2 st before marker and the very end 2 st

Row 1-k into the front and back of the first st(inc made) *inc,slip marker,inc,k to within 1 st of next marker*rep at
each marker to last st, inc

You increase into the stitch before each marker and after each marker in addition to the first and last stitch.

When they say work to within 1 stitch of next marker, they're just saying to work until there is one stitch remaining before the marker.

thanks ingrid...this is my question.. if I have 2 st at the start, how many will I have BEFORE I slip the marker Its those first 2 stitches thats confusing

You caston 2, then caston another 11, then I presume you caston more, so you count the total number of stitches you CO. There's 2 sts before the first marker when you slip markers. After you've started increasing, there's 2 more, then 2 more than that with each increase row. Or maybe I'm not understanding what you want to know....?

thanks Sue, I understand the casting on and increasing before and after the marker..it's just the very first direrctions, I am not sure how many stitches I should have with the first knit 2 is it just 3 or is it 4.

You'll start with 2 before the first marker. Increase in the first one for the beginning of the row increase, and increase in the second for the before-the-marker increase. As you progress, there will be stitches in between those, so you will actually be working to the one stitch before the marker in that section.
