As I'm also learning to a large degree (I've tended to concentrate to date on scarves and wraps and trying out different stitch patterns etc) I find something simple is great but when I've never used a ply before or even a particular yarn, I like to make swatches and just get a feel for what looks good with a particular yarn. I wanted to make a business friend a scarf and I sent him 3 images of grey flecked yarn I knew I could buy and let him choose the one he liked the look of. I then bought it but it was 14 ply. Remarkably light weight when made up but when I did a swatch I found my initial idea just didn't seem right so I experimented and found just the right look that seemed to make the most of the yarn. For some reason I'm really weird about reusing yarn I've used in swatches in my main item lol silly really but I rarely do. I wonder what other strange little idiosyncracies others may have
Do you like to wear wraps and is the colour suitable? That might be a good project for you if you want to learn some new stitches in a fairly straighforward type of item.
