What can I use 2 ply yarn for
I have some 2 ply 100% Maine wool yarn, labled 4 oz. 210 yds each x 6 skeins.

What would this yarn be best for, sweaters? Yes, I am new to yarn and I love it, I don't know yet, what yarns are best for what items.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Marilynn

Sweaters, vests, socks, caps etc would be fine. It would make worsted weight items I guess - meaning it's a lightweight type cloth when make up say by manufacturers to make suits etc. 1260 yards in all is a nice amount. I would be looking for patterns that provide for 2 ply specifically.

Have a look through the directory here and see what you can fine:

Thank you Susan for the reply, I have added that site to my favorites.

Yarn is interesting, I just need to learn what to use it for. I have only been knitting since February, and I love it.

Thanks,
Marilynn

As I'm also learning to a large degree (I've tended to concentrate to date on scarves and wraps and trying out different stitch patterns etc) I find something simple is great but when I've never used a ply before or even a particular yarn, I like to make swatches and just get a feel for what looks good with a particular yarn. I wanted to make a business friend a scarf and I sent him 3 images of grey flecked yarn I knew I could buy and let him choose the one he liked the look of. I then bought it but it was 14 ply. Remarkably light weight when made up but when I did a swatch I found my initial idea just didn't seem right so I experimented and found just the right look that seemed to make the most of the yarn. For some reason I'm really weird about reusing yarn I've used in swatches in my main item lol silly really but I rarely do. I wonder what other strange little idiosyncracies others may have

Do you like to wear wraps and is the colour suitable? That might be a good project for you if you want to learn some new stitches in a fairly straighforward type of item.

The yarn shop where I take lessons is having a class called the Lady Eleanor Stole made with Entrelac pattern.

It looks so interesting. I might try that.

I am trying to take this one step at a time, so I don't get ahead of what I am able to do yet. I just discovered the part on the forum that has the videos of the stitches, that is wonderful.

I want easy beginner patterns, sweaters top down and easy patterns to follow.

But this knitting thing is great, and all the yarns are wonderful to touch and imagine made into something.
