Quick Baby Sweater Directions Dilemma

I'm new to the forum and somewhat of a novice knitter when it comes to anything otehr than afghans. I have a question about the Quick Baby Sweater posted in the Free Patterns. If anyone has completed this sweater, could they tell me what I'm not grasping when it comes to dividing the stitches to create the sleeves? I just don't understand it.

The instructions read to place markers and the stitches will be divided as follows:
(123 sts divided as follows: 20 - 23 - 37 - 23 - 20).
But then it divides the stitches for the sleeves:
Sleeve: Slip sts from first (front) section up to marker (should be 22 sts) on to right hand needle.
Cast on 2 sts, knit across sleeve section (27 sts), turn and cast on 2 sts, purl back.

Help. What am I missing? Should I ignore the marker placements? I'm not very proficient at interpreting directions and haven't knitted enough sweaters to confidently make any changes.

Thanks to anyone who responds; it's appreciated.

When you divide for the sleeves and body, you can take off the stitch markers. These directions have you leave the front stitches on the needle, then work the sleeves on the same needle. Gets a little awkward; what you can do is work the front stitches, put them on another needle or stitch holder, then proceed with working over the sleeves.

Thank you so much.

I'll go ahead and just ignore the markers and follow the instructions as written for the number of stitches. I think I will also follow your suggestion and move the front stitches to a holder, so it will be less confusing.

Thanks again!
