There is a pattern for knitted PANTS in the book Big Girl Knits. I think you could probably just shorten the legs and be good to go!

I'm not sure off the top of my head. You can probablly check on Amazon . Knitpicks sells it too, but Amazon is probablly cheaper.

We have it in our tiny town library, so check there too--if anything you'll be able to get it through inter-library loan.
