Correct. That is exactly it. The horizontal rule in Arielluria sig is an image and is 600px wide. The forum post area has a max width of 525px, so anything larger than that will cause some wonkiness. If you trim 75px off that sig image it will fit perfectly!

Just a thought. Are you using Mozilla or IE?
I'm on Mozilla and when I type out my message the box expands beyond the purple left and right margins.....this does not happen on IE.

Also, somebody posted about a problem before, using multiple emoticons and having some of them appear with a space in them. Did anybody ever figure out a solution to that? I only randomly have the problem, and it's only when I click on the emoticons to put them in my message, but not when I type them out. It's very strange!

:cheer ing: <--- clicked on the emoticons

<--- typed them out myself.

IE treats the box as a layer and allows the post to extend outside of the forum boundary. Firefox and other Mozilla browsers will cause the whole forum to enlarge horizontally. You can see evidence of this by going to the top of the page and looking at the right hand size of the header image. If it's starting to repeat then the forum is being stretched to fit.

Solution: keep any signature images to a maximum of 525px wide. We have software to auto-scale attachments and inline images, however, we don't have any way to auto-scale sig images.

Cheers,

Will do, BUT, if you notice, most of my posts have not done that, and as you can see by the screenshot of this reply.......where there is no sig, the boxes don't fit.

Could it be Mozilla?

The editor can push out of the forum if you have customized your favorite smilies and included one (or more) smiles that has animation running left to right. Those particular smilies are wide and don't fit well into the 3 column layout of the smilies box resulting in a slightly larger box.

I believe every post that has too large a sig image will result in some forum shifting. I think I have noticed that with your posts in Mozilla (see screenshot for how Mozilla copes). IE and Mozilla handle it differently, although neither is very elegant. Once you bump the sig image down to 525px all your existing posts should be updated as well.

We used to gave similar problems with large inline images but yesterday I added in a auto-scaler to make large images fit the 525px spec. As far as I know we can't do anything similar for sig images.

Have a great night!

Hi, Sheldon!

Don't know if anyone's posted this yet, but when I go to Free Patterns>Hats>Braided Hat Pattern, I get redirected to http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting...opic.php?t=143, which takes me to the main forum page instead of the pattern.

I think that's the link to the thread from the old forum. It should be updated, though I think there's a thread from early in the changeover that gives the correct link.

That is correct. Links referencing the old forum will no longer work under the new forum. It's sort of an unfortunate consequence of updating. There are plenty of broken links in the free pattern section which Amy says she'll be updating soon.

Interesting... I use Firefox, yet only that one post enlarged for me. But like I said before, I'm not too concerned. It doesn't cause me any grief. It's just weird that it happens sometimes.

ETA: But I just checked after posting this, and today, everything is wider.

I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU to Sheldon because he deserves it after putting up with all of us. Sheldon, Amy is a lucky woman to have you, and it's just amazing that you are so patient with all our little eccentricities.
