Best kind of Join for a hat??

Hi,

Well, I just decided to jump in and knit the blasted hat on the larger cable needle. Because the yarn is so thin I think it's going to come out about the same size anyway. Here's my question:

I want to put in a stripe around the hat. I'm using 100% acrylic yarn (nice wool not available where I am right now). I'm thinking that either the duplicate stitch join or the double knit-in join from this website would work, but I'm not sure if there's a clear advantage or disadvantage to one or the other. :scratchinghead:

Anyone available soon to throw in their two cents?

I would do the duplicate stitch join in . You can do it in the inside of the hat and you'll never see the overlap on the outside. If you do the double knit join in, you'll see the different colored yarn on both sides...

Thank you so much! I was leaning towards that one, but not having ever made a join, I wasn't sure.

I am not sure if this would work but have you thought about the Russian join. I just watched the video and if it would work for the type of yarn you are using you might consider it.

Thanks. I watched the Russian join video and thought about it. It probably would look the best, but my yarn is so thin, I think the tapestry needles I have wouldn't work so well. I ended up doing the duplicate stitch join. I haven't done the duplicate stitching part yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to work out well.

The two colors look great together--a light sage green with a poppy violet. Yum! I'll post a picture when I finish it.
