2 socks soar on 2 circular needles

There is a book out there called "Socks Soar on 2 Circular Needles" It's a great book and for a beginner like me I was able to make a beautiful pair of socks.

I have a friend that attends a knit nite (too far away for me to go) where someone discovered how to knit 2 socks at the same time on just 2 needles. She says it also works well with sleeves because it ensures that everything is the same length.

All I know is that you need 2 balls of yarn. One for each sock. I tried it myself, but had problems from the start. After casting on and dividing the stitches, I had no way to reinforce the open end. Anyone use this technique? Anyone have any advice on how to start it? I am working on a sweater, and it would be nice to do both sleeves at the same time.

here is a link to a site with a tutorial. i have never done this tutorial so i don't know how good it is but i have heard it is pretty decent.

I make socks this way and love it. I haven't tried sweaters yet so I'm not help with the sleeves.

I don't quite know what you mean by "reinforce the open end." If the tutorial doesn't help you, you can always come back here and ask again...

The hardest part about this method is the casting on. If you can get that figured out, the rest is cake.

I tend to do them both separately magic loop-style,then rearrange them onto the same needles using a spare thinner DPN or two to hold them. Or a stitch holder... whatever. Only because I like to switch the first and last stitch in the round.

Thanks guys, that site looks like it will be a good one to have in my archive. It gives me just what I need to know. I can't wait to try it out :much:

By reinforce the end I mean switch the first and last stitch on the needle so to create a loop with just the stitches cast on.

I plan to experiment with sweater sleeves before actually using my good yarn, but if it works out I won't have to worry so much about the sleeves being uneven. Thanks again.
