Looking for Baby Afghan Pattern
I am a fairly new knitter. I just picked up some Cotton Tots yarn on sale at HL. I want to make a lap afghan for my niece who is expecting baby #2. I am currently working on a dishcloth that is a "stepping stones" lace pattern. It's very pretty and thought it would look good in an afghan. Does anyone have a pattern for this or something similar? Thanks in advance!!

If you like that pattern why don't you just use it to make any afghan. Once you know how big you want to make it you can figure out how many stitches you need to cast on. I would do an inch of a garter stitch border all around the afghan. I can help you figure it out if you need help.

I couldn't find patterns to make blankets I liked, so I make up my own, just as Sanibelle suggested. I follow the stitch pattern and put some sort of border on it. I'm working on one now with a seed stitch border and a type of lattice in the center.
I've decided it's fun to make my own patterns, and then I can get what I want, not what someone else likes.

I had thought about doing that, but it makes my head hurt thinking about figuring out the repeat, and the pattern is staggered, so I'd have to get that right. I don't think I have that much experience yet!

Do you have a link for the pattern? Let me know how wide you want it and what yarn you are using so we can figure the gauge. We can do this! It will be fun and you will fell so good when you get it done!

It's from a Yahoo Group KAL. I have it saved as a word file. I could email it to you if you'd like. I really appreciate it!!

If it's the pattern Stonington linked, that would be easy to make into an afghan size. The stitch pattern is 18 sts, so you CO a multiple of 18, the number of them depends on the size you want, which will be determined by how many sts/inch you get with your yarn and needles. Place markers every 18 sts so you know where to begin each pattern repeat and it should stagger itself. You may want to add an inch or two on the ends and edges for a garter or seed st border so they won't roll.
