Have ANOTHER QUESTION with the Drop Stitch Knitted Tank Top
Someone help me with the math.

I did the cast on.. I have knitted to the point of stating the shape of the armhole. I have bind off the 3 sts on both sides. I was about to do the bind off of the 2 sts. when I counted my sts to make sure I was going to end up with 67. I will have 73 sts lefts. What I'm I doing wrong.

cast on 83 sts. Shape armholes Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Next Row (RS) Bind off 3 sts as foll: Bind off first st, drop the next st all the way down to the bottom of piece, bind off over the one dropped st as above (see Note), k across row. Next Row (WS) Bind off as for previous armhole except as to p, p across row. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows-67 sts.

I bind off the 3 sts, then knitted the row, turned-- bind off 3 then purl turned-- bind off 2, knit,, turn ---bind off 2 purl,, That makes a count of 10,, where is the 6 sts that I am NOT losing?

Thanks for the help.

OK - you're taking the two lines saying "next row" as the instructions for the only two rows you're binding 3 stitches off on. That is not so. Bind off 3 stitches on each side. After you've done that, you're going to do it again except for with the fancy dropping of the stitches. Then the 2 on each side.

You didn't mention the middle section of the shaping:

cast on 83 sts.

Did you do these? You just mentioned binding off 3 on the the 2 rows and then the last 2 on 2 rows. That might be the 6 st you are missing.

This is what I did.

bind off the frist 3 at the same time I drop the st. then knitted to the end of the row. ( you can't bind off at the end of a row????) Then I turned and bind off the first 3, I did not drop.. purl all the way to the end. bind off 2, knit to the end, Turn,, bind off 2, purl to the end. That is 10 sts...

I'm sorry guys, I still don't get what I am doing wrong. I don't want to frog to much as I have that drop sts.

ummmm.... not too experienced in this but let me try.....

83 total stitches
Shape armholes Bind off 3 stitches beg of next 2 rows
- 3 stitches for 1st row
-3 second row bind off
___
77 stitches left
Bind off 3 sts as foll: Bind off first st, drop the next st all the way down to the bottom of piece, bind off over the one dropped st as above (see Note), k across row.
-3 bind off
___
74 stitches left
Next Row (WS) Bind off as for previous armhole except as to p, p across row.
-3 next bind off
__
71 stitches left
-2 bind off next row
-2 bind off next row
___
67 stitches left

Hope this makes sense to you. I tried it on a scrap and it worked.

This is so embarrassing. I guess I don't know as much as I wish I did.. I really don't want to have to ASK again for help. I think I understand it but I am seconding guessing myself.

With size 7 needles, cast on 83 sts. Work in St st for 9 inches, bend WS. Work even until armholes measure 8 inches, end WS.

Will this make the sweater a total of 17 in.. Do I measure from the arm up to make 8in?

Right, you'd measure the 8" from the first row where you BO sts for the underarm.
