Baby Caftan Pattern Help - Thanks Ingrid! (& FO pic)
I am making the Baby Caftan from a pattern I found on the label of Caron Simply Soft (note: this is a very different pattern from the one on their website).
Basically, you end up with a keyhole neck that you pick up sts around to finish. I am having the hardest time interpreting the instructions for picking up the sts:
With RS facing, using circular needle, beginning at lower edge (BO sts) of placket, pick up and knit 10 sts to beg of neck shaping, pm; pick up and knit 10 sts along right Front neck to shoulder; knit across 18 sts on holder for Back neck, pu and knit 10 sts along left Front neck to beg of placket, pm; pu and knit 10 sts to lower edge (bo sts) of placket - 58 sts.
But what about the 6 sts that are bound off at the bottom of the keyhole (they are calling it a placket)?! It says to start at the LOWER EDGE, do they mean the middle of the placket? It sounds like they mean the left edge, but this leaves 6 BO sts between the beginning of the 58 picked up sts and the end.
It is very hot in my house and I can't figure this one out. I tried just leaving a hole, but it didn't look like it was going to work (and the instructions don't say anything about how I would deal w/this hole later. It would definitely need some type of finishing).
It's hard to tell without a picture, but I think that you pick up at the bottom of the placket--at the left edge, work up and around the neck to the right edge of the bound off stitches.
At this point, are you supposed to work in the round or are you supposed to work back and forth? The circular needle may just be to make picking up the stitches easier. If that's the case, then the 6 bound off stitches wouldn't matter.
"Trust the pattern!"
