Finding the End

Every new skein starts with the same regret of trying find that pesky end that's burried somewhere in the middle of my new pretty skein. I carefully open up end making it wide enough to try to see where the center part might actually be. I reach in... feel around... and grab a wad of yarn and pull it out. There's always more yarn that emerges than I'd like to see. Dauntily I unwind the clump, wind it back up into it's own center-pull ball and then stuff the ball back into the opened up wound of the original skein.

Come on gals, tell me there's a way to find that end that's less painful! Tips on which end to look in maybe.

That's what happens unfortunately. Try putting in 2 fingers, one each end, spin your fingertips around each other, they should catch something near the end if you can't feel where that is some other way

"Yarn vomit" happens to us all at one time or another. If you look at the skein, there is one end into which the outer strand is tucked --or if it's out, where it would be tucked into. I've found that the other end is where the yarn has a chance of coming out. I just reach in a pinch and hope for the best. If I get a clump, I just wrap it around the rest of the ball and carry on.
