Help! Pattern question for stuffed elephant
I am currently knitting a stuffed elephant from Last Minute Knitted Gifts and I'm stuck. You are supposed to take the two legs (knitted separately) and redistribute the 40 sts on two circular needles, RS facing, so that half of the sts for each leg are on each needle in order to join them together and knit the body in the round. It says to "join double strand of main yarn with RS facing to the beginning of one needle. However, when I put the the sts on the 2 needles, the working yarn for each leg ends up in the middle of either needle and I don't know how or where to start joining in a new strand. This may be a stupid question, but I'm not that experienced of a knitter. Can anyone help?

After you make each leg, it says to cut the yarn, so where the yarn is on each leg is no longer important. Just let it hang and weave it in later.

I'd just have the right side facing and start knitting at the beginning of the needle on the front. You're working in the round on two circs, so you'll knit the front section on it's own needle and then turn it over and work the back on it's needle.

As I said, this may be a stupid question, but can you clarify? How do you join in the yarn and start knitting in what is essentially the middle of a row, since the legs are technically folded in half so that the middle of the leg is at the beginning of the needle? I hope I'm making sense here. I'm just totally confused.

From what I'm understanding from the directions, you just start on the edge--which will be the center of the side of the leg. You'll knit across the front half of the left leg and the front half of the right leg with one needle, then turn and knit the back half of the right leg and the back half of the left leg. (the elephant's right and left)

Just start knitting with the new yarn.

Now you'll have created the body stitches and will continue to knit up to the shoulders.
