shaping back of shell
I'm working on the "Classic Silk Shell" as is seen at http://www.classiceliteyarns.com/pat...p?patternID=18. I've nearly completed the back - and have run into a brick wall. I am at "shape shoulders and neck": BO 5 sts of beg of next 6 rows and at the same time, on first row of shoulder shaping, work to center 29 sts, join second ball of yarn, BO center sts; work to end. Working both sides at the same time, BO 4 sts at each neck edge once. I have given instructions for my size. I have 67 stitches on my needles. Do I bind off the 5 - knit over 29 sts. I tie on the second ball - then what? how many stitches do I bind off? Do I start to use the yarn from the second ball instead of the yarn on the ball I've been using???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BO 5 sts, work to the center sts. Drop your yarn and pick up new yarn end, BO 29, work to end of row. Turn, BO 5 sts, work to center, drop yarn, pick up other yarn, BO 4 sts, work to end of row. Repeat on the next row. Then BO 5sts on the beginnig of the row only for the next 4 rows.

Starting with 67 stitches - the center is stitch #34. If I BO 5 sts, then knit 29 - I'm at stitch 35 - so I'm already 1 st past the middle - BO 29 (which as I understand it takes 30 sts to BO 29 sts) - and I end up with 2 sts on my needle. If I work to the end of the row and turn - I don't have 6 sts to BO. Am I missing something?

The `center 29' isn't counted from the BO, it's the center of all 67 stitches. 67-29 is 38, divided by 2 (for each side) is 19, minus 5 is 14. When you BO 5, you're going to end up with a stitch on your right needle; that's the 1st one of the 14 sts; knit 13 more, drop your yarn, pick up the new yarn and BO 29. Then knit 19, turn and BO 5, work over the 14 sts on that shoulder. Drop yarn, pick up yarn on other side, BO 4, knit 10, turn. BO 5, knit 5, drop yarn/pick up other yarn, BO 4, knit 10, turn. BO 5, knit 5, drop yarn/pick up other yarn, knit 5, turn. BO 5 (that's all ther are), drop yarn/pick up other yarn, knit 5, turn. BO 5 and you're done.
