I found this yarn for $3 at Mike's today. Plus, my friend had a baby boy, so I'm going to make one.

I'm already confused though. What does it mean to knit in the front and back of first stitch? And do I do that each row from 1-6 on the first stitch?

As you can tell, I'm fairly new at this. But, it's darling and I know she'll love it for her new little blessing.

Yes you are going to K1 F&B on the first stitch for the 1st 6 rows. There is a video in the Glossy section of this website you can watch to see how this stitch is completed.

Now another question. I am ready for row 40. It says "Cast on 12 stitches for paws, knit to end of row, 64 stitches"

I've never cast on mid project. I just finished row 40, so how do I cast on there. I've only done long tail cast on, do I need to do another type? Where do I do it?

Just recently I look up on your site "Mattress Stitch" for sewing seam. I had never done it before, so I used it on a jacket I had just made- it worked out very well.
