Needle felting

Hey everyone! I'm working on this pattern: http://www.elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=187024 and need to do the notes. Someone suggested in another thread that I might try needle felting the notes on. Do you all think that would work? It would definitely be trying a new technique, but I'm up for it, if it would work well. Could I also use the needle felting for the note stems, time signature, and clef - or would it only work for the note heads?

You could absolutley needle felt the designs on! I would suggest drawing with a thin pointed marker so that you could follow the designs. Many needle felting projects use roving as the fiber, but since there are fine lines in the pattern you could just use black wool yarn instead to have a smaller fiber to work with.

This site has some good directions on needle felting. You'll just want to take your time!

I've used needle felting to put initials/names on purses before using yarn instead of roving - I need more practice, but it is worth it! You could start with a piece of felt and black yarn to try it out first!

That's a really cute bag! Of course you could needle felt the notes, staff, and time signature to the bag. Yep, you can use roving or yarn. Yarn for the long straight lines is a good idea.

To needle felt something you just poke it over and over again with a small barbed felting needle. It basicly tangles the fibers. Be sure to have foam behind it so you don't accidentaly stab yourself.
I havn't used a shape template like they're talking about. I just layout the loose fibers to see how it will look and then stab away.
