HELP.I need some advice on knitting a baby sweater
Hi everyone. I have a question. I am knitting a baby sweater that is calling for a size 2 and 3 needle. The 3 needle being the main needle. The sweater is for a size 2 - 3. I would like it to be alittle bigger, and am wondering if I use size 3 and 4 needles, if that would work, using the same instructions.

That should work well enough. Try out a swatch on the size 3 and 4 to see how it changes your sts/inch and so how much bigger it would be.

That would work, but a gauge swatch is a good idea. You want to also see if the yarn will work with a larger needle and not be too lacy..unless that is the way you want it. You could also use a heavier weight yarn for a larger size.

You may end up with a wider sweater but if the directions tell you, ie, knit until front measures XX inches, you're not really going to end up with a bigger sweater. You'd need to add a little to the length of it as well, I'd think. OTOH if it just tells you ie "repeat pattern 7 times" then the extra length will end up built in due to the bigger needles.

Would I be better off using the same needles and just adding more stitches? The instructions are for ages 6 mos - 1 and then 2 - 3. Do you think I should just add as many stitches that they use between the 6 mons-1 and the 2-3? Example: if it calls for 24 st for the 6 mons-1 and 26 st for the 2-3, maybe I should do 28 for the 4-5?

That's a very good way to size up (or down); taking the difference between the sizes and using that number for the next size.
