Help! Can't understand this pattern stitch!
Hi-
I'm a relatively new knitter; I know basic patterns. BUT I cannot decipher the meaning of the following pattern instructions. Can anyone help translate? I understand the required stitches. I just don't understand how the "picot row" works with the "tiny bowknot" row.
THanks! Ann
Beg with a K row, work 8 rows of Stst. On 9th row (Rs), work "picot turning row" pattern for turned hem. On next WS row, beg working "tiny bowknot patt", keeping selvedge sts in Stst. Work even in patt as set until back measures 13 inches.
Picot turning row=
K1*yo, k2tog*k1

Tiny bowknot (multiple of 6 sts)
rw 1: (Ws) P
rw2: K
rw 3: *p3,k3*
rw4: *p1, k1 into st below the next st on LN, p1, k3*
rw5: P
rw6:K
rw7: *K3, p3*
rw8: *k3, p1, k1 into st below the next st on LN, p1*

It just looks like you'll work the Picot turning row on the next rs row, and on the next row start the bow knot with row 1--just a purl row.

The stockinette that you did in the beginning I imagine is the hem, the picot row will be where you fold it up, and the bowknot pattern is on the outside edge.

The picot row will be the point later where you turn up for the hem - sometimes patterns just make it a purl row, but in this case, when you turn the hem it will produce a decorative edge.

So after you knit your 8 rows of stickinette, do one row in the picot pattern. When you finish that 9th (picot) row, you will turn (and now be on the WS) and be all set up to do your Bowknot pattern (which you'll do for 13").

on the tiny bowknot stitch, does the "p1,k1 into the next stitch below on LN , p1k3 " all go into that one stitch from below? Minilyn

minilyn,

I don't think so. All the pattern instructions are written that way with commas between things. I'm sure it is just the one stitch that is knit into the row below, then purl 1, then knit 3, then go back to the * and repeat.
