Do you have any extra yarn to donate?
Not just yarn: knitting needles, notions, basic "how to knit" books/pamphlets/booklets, anything.

A woman in my local knit night at Loopy Yarns in Chicago is a counselor at a battered women's shelter, and thought that teaching the women how to knit would not only be therapeutic and confidence-building but also teaching them some skills that they can take with them.

So I thought I would send out the call to the most generous group of people I know. Would you be interested in something like this? I think that anything you have lying around would be sufficient.

PLMK if there's any interest in this and I will give you an address to send your stuff to.

Oh, I have 2 big bags full of yarn that I've been hoping to donate someplace

(You don't know if they would be willing to pay for the shipping, do you? I'm in Maryland and it's easily 25 pounds of really nice yarn) Shipping would be too costly for me.

I think this is a great idea. I have some yarn and needles I'd be happy to ship out. Would you please send me an e-mail so that I could mail something out tomorrow?

Thanks!

As soon as I get more information I will send out the address to send things to.

Also, as this is a battered women's shelter asking for donations, I don't think they have the funds to pay for shipping, sorry. If you're afraid it will be too heavy to ship, maybe just ship a few things? Or just the needles or something light? Books can get really heavy really fast.

Yes! My charity knitting group has more donated yarn than we know what to do with. I would be more than happy to send some of it to the shelter.

You guys are awesome!!

I will PM each of you the address to ship your stuff to. And if anyone else has stuff to get rid of (and who doesn't?) please post here or PM me. My friend says they'll take anything, but she thought maybe dishcloth stuff would be good too.

I have PMed you. I definitely have some yarn for your friend and I'm glad to have it go to a good cause. Thanks to you and your friend for doing this.
