Help new to knitting. K the k sts and p the p sts.

So if the 1st row is; *p6,k2; rep from * across.
and the 2nd row says; k the k sts and p the p sts

Do I p6 and k2 on the 2nd row or will I be k6 and p2? I'm confused. Because on the 2nd row the k stitches look like p and the p look like k. The design is called sugar cubes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought so but wasn't sure.

Last year I re-taught myself to crochet ( i hadn't crocheted for almost 30 years) and made my husband a beautiful aran crocheted sampler afghan. This year I decided to teach myself to knit. Wow! It is much more difficult. But I will persevere (?S) I think you may see a lot of me.

You go by what they look like on the row you are doing, not by what you just did. Does that make sense??
