Knitting ideas (and yarn suggestion) for getting through winter?
I'm planning to knit a pair of gloves for my friend who's living in Toronto cuz she said it's freezing cold outdoors during winter. But I can't make up my mind between gloves and convertible gloves/mittens. Which one is better?

And what kind of yarn should I use for best warmth? And also.. Is there any yarn that can be tumble dry after machine washing?

I would guess that convertables would be the warmest and still provide the option of using one's fingers if need be.

Any super wash wool yarn can go through washer and dryer. Sock yarns would be a great choice.... I throw my socks in the washer and dryer all the time. They come out a bit wonky looking, but fit perfectly when I put them back on.

I would do 2 pairs - a pair of gloves so she can move her fingers, and a pair of felted mittens she can pull on top of them for those super cold days. Adding leather patches on the palms of the mittens for driving would be good, too.
