19 must be a popular age for women to get married. I was 19 when my DH and I got married, 41 years ago.

I was married the first time at 16, he was 19. Had a baby at 17, divorced at 18.

The second time around, I was 28, DH was 33. We will be celebrating our 17th next month.

My hubby and I have been together for almost 6 years, but we are just coming up on our 1 year anniversary. (We were both really reluctant to get married too young)

No, the odds were definitely not in our favor, but it really ticked me off that people automatically assumed we would fail. Not cool. Now when I see those people I feel very smug.
ME TOO!! A year or so into our marriage we found out that not only some of our best friends, but family members too, were swearing that we wouldn't last!!!

Since then, we've seen 6 other couples marry and divorce... all of them friends or family, some of the same ones who said DH and I wouldn't make it. One in particular, the biggest nay-sayer is currently on a REALLY rocky road only 2 years into his marriage. I don't like to feel this way, but I really can't help but feel a little smug too.

Now people just ask us how we do it. I don't know.. I think some people are just made for each other. DH and I are "like peas n carrots". And I had good role models. My parents are still married after 37 years.

I got married right before I turned 27, and I can't imagine doing it any sooner - at that I sometimes felt too young! We married about a year after we met, and it's been almost 6 awesome years! He's got quirks, but I think and thank for how lucky I am every day.

Coulsnt agree with you more, SIlver!

I split with my 1st hubby in like August of 1997. Met 2nd in Dec of 1997...and quit dating. Everyone told me I was going too fast, blah blah...I had my daughter to think about...

But really...when the cute guy who works at the newspaper calls you and asks you for a date, and you tell him you cant, cause you dont have a babysitter...OFFERS TO TAKE YOU BOTH TO can you NOT like him from the get go?

We started dating, and for 2 years it was awesome...and to this very day...Im so sad that he and I didnt meet each other first.

We actually lived down the street from each other in the late 80s.

PaperGirl there too!

It will be 5 yrs for me & DH on Sept. 14!!! We'll all be celebrating together!

We met when we were 21, the summer before our senior year of college. Got engaged 4 months later, got married 9 months later. All our friends and family told us we were nuts. We were the first ones of all our friends to get married. But after all this time, we're probably happier than all of them combined!

Umm... Looks like I have the newest relationship so far.

We met on another board online (NOT a dating site!) last summer, had our first Yahoo chat New Year's weekend and he moved out here from the East Coast the beginning of May. It's looking pretty serious/permanent.

So I guess 7 1/2 months?
