Xstch is really easy

I don't know how it is on knitted items, but on a regular Xstch canvas there are four dots or which you are suppose to thread in one direction and come back

:/:/:/:/:/:

forward

:\:\:\:\:\:

backward, but when you add it to what you've already got, it looks like this:

: X : X : X : X : X :

To do cross stitch, you are, Stitching a Cross, or X, as glucose101 described, one cross over one knitted stitch, with needle and thread/yarn.
See here for further how too.
