Cast on type

I'm knitting the sweater from the cover of Knitter's Magazine K86. The right back panel sz to cast on 2 stitches each RS row: Do I use the cable cast on for these rs row stitches as I did for the beginning. Or do I do the K2M1 cast on. The instructions say cast on 2 sts at beg of ever RS row... The note in the corner sz inc rows "At beg of RS rows K2, M1.

Help!!! Too confusing?

A cast on is different than a M1 increase.

Do you have to increase later on--one stitch each edge?

If it's truly a cast-on that you have to do, and it sounds like it, since the increase will only give you one stitch, then the cable would work out well.

I think what it means is to CO 2 sts, then knit back over them and M1. That would give you a total increase of 3 sts per row.
